Liz Pavlik

After over a decade as a Computer-Aided Drafting/Design (CAD) Technician, I made the decision to pursue an Applied Technology degree at University of Maryland Global Campus. My practical CAD experience is combined with a strong foundation in mathematics, programming, and technical writing. I bring an unusual but complimentary skill set, flexibility in learning new technologies, and a passion for well-organized data to my transition into data engineering and analytics.

Interests

My first hobby is picking up hobbies. I have taught myself music composition, fiction writing, photography, programming, web development, linguistics, modeling of objects for use in 3D printing, and a host of others. My ability and willingness to learn new skills is one of my greatest assets.

My great loves are the fiber arts: knitting, crochet, macrame. I began knitting in 2017, crocheting in 2018, and most recently picked up macrame. I have made blankets, toys, bags, scarves, hats, and sweaters. I really enjoy crocheting doilies, as they are very technically challenging and require dexterity and attention to detail.

My other great passion is meteorology in general, and tornadoes in specific. Since 2012, I have served as a volunteer storm spotter with the Skywarn program through the National Weather Service, reporting observed severe weather phenomena such as flooding, damaging wind, hail, and funnel clouds/tornadoes.

I am a semi-verbal, lower-needs autistic woman. Consequently, writing is my primary form of communication, and I have learned to use it to great effect over the years. Much of my spare time is dedicated to both self-advocacy and advocating for others in the community. My current area of interest is autism in marginalized and historically underprivileged demographics.

Projects

SkeinBase logo
Web Development: SkeinBase (coming soon)

A resource to assist yarn artists in finding substitutions for new, unavailable, or discontinued yarns for use in their projects. Yarns/threads are filterable by attributes such as fiber composition, Craft Yarn Council weight, color variations, grist, wraps per inch, and more.

SQL Code
Relational Databases: Online Analytical Processing Database

Implementation of an OLAP database for an online automotive sales startup. Project also entailed the development of PL/SQL stored procedures and complex SQL queries for vehicle sales performance analysis and decision support.
